Zag Bio’s therapies harness the natural processes of the immune system by targeting the thymus to generate long-lasting and beneficial immune cells that deliver a localized protective effect.
This approach has the potential to benefit millions of people impacted
by autoimmune disease.
The thymus trains developing immune cells to differentiate between ‘self’ and ‘non-self’, creating conventional T cells that destroy harmful invaders, and regulatory T cells that protect the body’s own tissues. Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system falls out of balance. In this case, autoreactive conventional T cells lose their earlier training to avoid ‘self’ antigens, and they attack and potentially destroy a person’s own cells and tissue.

Our bifunctional antibodies deliver selected antigens to specialized antigen-presenting cells in the thymus, where they encounter immune cells.
Our Platform
Developing immune cells are trained to recognize the antigens, generating antigen-specific regulatory T cells (Tregs) designed to protect against autoimmune attack.
Science of the Thymus
Antigen-specific Tregs leave the thymus and travel to tissues that express the antigen and are under attack. The Tregs suppress the autoimmune response, restoring immune tolerance and promoting healing.
